Fabio Borini says Rino ‘has contributed a lot in terms of being a group’ and insists that he has always been a forward.

Milan have struggled for goals all season, but it was not the case against SPAL on Saturday afternoon as they scored 4 times past the newly-promoted side.

Patrick Cutrone scored twice, before Lucas Biglia and Fabio Borini got on the scoresheet as well to give Rino Gattuso’s side the three important points.

“I was just waiting for a goal, I made myself at the team’s disposal,” Borini, who arrived in the summer from Sunderland, said to the MilanTV at the end of the match at Stadio Paolo Mazza. “Cutrone? He is amazing, he has an incredible instinct. It is his merit to be like this in the area.

“Who do I dedicate this goal to? There’s no dedication, it is only the fruit of hard work. The coach is important. After the 3-0 I had the opportunity to play forward and the goal arrived and I’m happy. When you sacrifice for the team, you lose a bit individually but if the results arrive then it makes me feel good, it’s a pleasure to play so much, no one expected it at the start.

“The goal is the crowning achievement for now. My role [Borini played as a right / left fullback many times]? At this moment I feel more like a forward. I’ve always felt like a forward, I’ve changed roles for the team, but I was a striker and I will continue to be one. I like scoring and I missed it.

“Gattuso [who replaced Vincenzo Montella as Milan’s coach in November]? He has contributed a lot in terms of being a group, feeling all together, a family. He’s brought back what it was like in the past.”

Speaking to MilanTV, Borini said: “I am happy to score. I am working very hard and I am always at the coach’s disposal. I have been looking forward to scoring and today finally I did. My role? I don’t know if it was a test ahead of the Sampdoria game but when I play as a winger in an attacking trio it’s easier for me to score and I took advantage of the minutes the coach gave me.

“The match? It’s tough to play in this stadium, Inter for instance drew here and nobody won easily here. They had opportunities against us and even hit the post. We did well at holding them back and then putting the game to bed. Cutrone? He’s a great striker, he has an innate instinct.

“The ball looks for Cutrone and goes inside, it’s his merit. The Europa League [Milan face Ludogorets on Thursday]? We must play a good game as a team and get a positive result already in Bulgaria.”

    • 12th mvp, as in, eternal reserve who should only play when milan have already killed the game off. Oh well, as long as he doesnt play

  1. “I, i, i. My, my, my.” Ur so full of urself borivaldo. Maybe stop shooting whenever u have the ball and pass/cross it like a good winger for a chance. Then u can be good old reserve for when the wingers are injured or the game has been settled in milan’s favor

  2. Borini simply lacks technical ability to be a winger but in his younger ages he played as an striker and he was good. not amazing! but good enough. the most amazing thing about him is his professionalism & hard work. he never complains about playing at defense, midfield or attack and we should respect that. every time we need a player he steps up and do his best.
