Lucas Biglia has admitted that ‘the first few months were not easy’ and said the confidence he is getting from coach Gennaro Gattuso is crucial for him.
This has been a very positive moment for Milan as they have not lost since December in all competitions and their record in the last 5 games is WWDDW. In all of those matches, Lucas Biglia started.
The Argentine midfielder, who arrived in the summer, is returning to form and today he managed to get a goal as after stealing the ball, he succeeded in beating Alex Meret with a great shot in Milan’s 4-0 win (Cutrone and Borini scored too).
“This is an important goal for me, but I am happier with the 3 points won after having drawn against Udinese,” Biglia told MilanTV. “We deserved to win there too and now we are about to face an important stage of the season, in which we have to play many games and all of them crucial to our goals. We have to think about that. There are no such things as easy games, we are learning to hold up and resist as a team and then, of course, we have quality, which helps us win matches like this one.
“The confidence of the coach? It is crucial for me, I would like to thank him and his staff for believing in me in difficult moments. The group? It’s important, we are strong and even those who do not play help the starters. We will be playing every three days and we need everyone’s help.
“Cutrone [who scored a brace]? We are happy for him, also in training he’s hungry. He’s young, hungry and intelligent, he will continue to grow, and I congratulate him. The Europa League? Now the real season begins, we will try to have a good game in Bulgaria and then we’ll see.
Speaking to Sky after the final whistle of ref Maurizio Mariani, Biglia said: “The first part of the season? It was difficult, the injury, the results… I was playing with a very strong knee pain and I kept having to stop. I thank the coach, he gave me support and I must thank the staff and my teammates.
“I don’t read the newspapers and I don’t want sports channels. I like football, but I don’t read anything. I have a lot of self-criticism, I thank the club for the support and I hope to replay them in the best way possible. Comparisons to Pirlo? I cannot be compared to a phenomenon.
“I am not the same type of player. I try to bring balance to the team and know my own limitations. I am getting on a bit now, but I am trying to overcome my limits.”
In his Premium Sport interview, the regista added: “The first few months were not easy, but the club believed in me and supported me. The team is growing, we are working well. My decline? It was a physical problem, I had gotten injured and then I had a pain in my knee that forced me to stop. A player like me needs to play and if I don’t then I can’t find the right shape and continuity.
“Gattuso? He has given us a lot from the first minute he arrived. He put into our minds his way of experiencing football. In every training session, he makes us go beyond our limits and we never have a moment to relax. I had the fortune of playing against him, I feel lucky.
“He and his staff are forming a real team mentality. We have so much hunger and enthusiasm now, he is bringing out the confidence in the side and that makes the difference. We do everything at 100 per cent. It will not be easy, we now have to think about Thursday when we play something important.
“Cutrone? He is a guy who works very well, he has a lot of hunger and it makes the difference.”
