Stefano Mazzoni has given the weekly update on the injured players, giving good news on Mateo Musacchio, and talked about Luca Antonelli’s new injury.

The Derby della Madonnina will take place on Sunday at 20:45 CET and Vincenzo Montella will be needing everyone at their best in order to defeat the Nerazzurri, who started he league brilliantly with 6 wins and a draw.

Many of Montella’s starters have been on international duty all week (you can read the second round-up here) but others have not been available due to injuries, and team doctor Mazzoni provided the weekly update on Tuesday.

“Musacchio had suffered muscle fatigue,” Mazzoni told MilanTV. “He’s doing better and has resumed training with the rest of the group. Probably, he won’t complete the whole training today [yesterday] since it’s his first after a few days lay-off. These are comforting news on Musacchio.

“I really feel for Antonelli because he was back from an injury to a muscle flexor. Unfortunately, after a few days of training, he sustained a calf problem. The good news comes from the ultrasound scan we did at Milanello, with the results confirmed by a Magnetic Resonance Imaging that was done on Tuesday morning and there are no lesions. With the calf muscle, when there are the first symptoms, it’s best to take them into consideration before the situation gets worse and this is what we’ll do with Luca. We can say it’s nothing serious and it’s comforting news. But we were all sorry to see a player who had brilliantly recovered from an injury pick up another problem. Luckily, it’s nothing serious.

“Kalinić is improving day by day. We have to keep the situation monitored and we’ll see how it goes after each training session. We can say that for the derby there’s cautious optimism.”
