Hakan Çalhanoğlu admitted ‘I had forgotten about the first yellow card’ and thought Milan ‘played a really good game’ in the 2-0 defeat to Roma.
Milan lost their third match of the season, getting defeated at San Siro 2-0 by Eusebio Di Francesco’s Roma.
The Rossoneri had a relatively good match for 70 minutes, but afterwards they fell apart completely: Edin Dzeko (72′) and Alessandro Florenzi (77′) scored, while Hakan Çalhanoğlu got sent off (80′) and will miss the derby against Inter.
“We played a really good game, creating chances and attacking. I can’t remember Roma troubling us until the 70′ minute,” Hakan told MilanTV. “In the second half we tried to keep it up and we were in control of the game. Dzeko’s goal really struck us hard, it became almost impossible to score.
“Florenzi’s second tied it up but they were lucky. The attack? Everyone saw that we did everything we could to score, but they did well in defense. We have to work hard. I got sent off? I am really sorry for receiving the red card: there was a misunderstanding with Romagnoli and I had forgotten about the first yellow card. I am sorry to the fans, unfortunately I will miss the derby [after the break, 15/10].”
Giacomo Bonaventura will most likely take the spot of Çalhanoğlu, who was picked by La Gazzetta dello Sport as the Flop of the Match with a rating of 5/10 (overall team rating was 5.5/10).
