So yes, we Milan fans that grew up with success ingrained in the DNA of the club both on and off the pitch would have found the last couple of years pretty frustrating. Almost nothing has gone right since the sale of Ibrahimović and Thiago Silva – in my opinion, absolutely nothing has gone right. 2011 was the last time Milan won the Scudetto and since then we have literally struggled with mediocrity.

Berlusconi and Galliani have done a good job for most part of the years, assembling squads worthy of taking on the gods on Mount Olympus itself.

But it’s safe to say the last couple of years have been nothing but failures, more failures and then more failures, living off free transfers and washed up players. So with that in mind I am really glad B&G have decided to be realistic and sell to those who can actually make Milan great again.

I have my doubts about the Chinese and I am just going to watch even though I’m not brimming with optimism (you cannot blame me exactly; my hopes have been dashed one time too many).

Whether the Chinese take us up there pretty soon as they have promised is not something I am willing to bank upon, but this however could be our year, with little spotlight and a coach that has an acceptable knowledge of good football (just look at what he did with Fiorentina), we could build from the scratch and like the phoenix – rise up again from the ashes.

We have Gigio (17), Romagnoli (21), Gomez (23), Mauri (20), Niang (21), De Sciglio (23), Calabria (20), Suso (22) and Locatelli (18). All below 24. Now that’s something worth getting excited over.

These guys could be the building blocks of the team for years to come we could have our own makeshift Paolo Maldini & Franco Baresi in Romagnoli and Gomez, provided there’s good management and we don’t jump at the offer of a sale for any of them. They could grow together and develop some telepathic form of chemistry that makes for guaranteed success over time. I mean, this is how the Milan we fell in love with was built.

I know it is a difficult reality we have found ourselves in, we have gloried too much in our past achievements and failed to face reality, this might just be our year and the amazing thing is it would cost us absolutely nothing! A start of something new thanks to the Chinese and also the quality of youths we have. This could be our year of the phoenix and who knows, if everything goes right with a properly placed structure for continuity, we just might have the team to beat in the next three years.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow, this sham we have found ourselves in, but who knows – hope is the last to die and Milan WILL totally be great again. Forza Milan!

  1. Milan have conceded 5 goals in two games. All they do is tackle the opponents and collect red cards. Should have worked on the defence

  2. Ayo,am very grateful u wrote this. I have been humiliated so many times in continous years ever we sold Ibrahimovic n Thiago. My painful question is who advised their selling? Well that’s in the past now. I have seen so many frustrations bcos we lack quality players but I and my 5 children still remain Milan forever. My little baby always cry when we lose while u could see the pains in the older one faces. I have taken every thing in good fate but the management must think and remember the fans intrest when selling our players. Tnx once again for this important article. We are still Milan forever no matter what happens.

  3. I’m thinking why Berlusconi & The Chinese couldnt somehow find a maybe strange agreement to bring forward some of that 85m for 2 powerful mids and win the Scudetto!! Besides they have managed to bring that 15m from it.. Why not more.

  4. Agree, we will have a great future, we already seen it, suso niang donnaruma romagnoli. But there’s something wrong about our defence. Conceded 6 goals in 2 games?? Only donnaruma has good rating.
Rogmanoli even worse than last season, he more stable with Alex. We should get a new CB and Dm to cover our defensive line.

  5. I am 100% with you this time. This year feels different. We did lost to Napoli but I have a feeling we are gonna bounce back strong. Than January will come and after that we are gonna be threat to anyone!!!

    Forza Milan!!!

  6. I must say that Ayo has said what’s on my mind. It’s good that B&G had to leave cos they made Milan powerless. Tomorrow should be bright

  7. The s**t milan is giving us now is just a pure rubbish,, i mean they cant buy as there is no money and no one wants to do the loan deals… Galliani knows there is cash coming soon, if they really wanna get some player, they should just get a loan deal with a must buy out option, and deal is done…. they are just f****ng around

  8. i like how you associate Milan with a Phoenix! We are still in the ashes yet, but we’re about to rise up, just you wait!
Honestly tho, if the new owners can get us a new stadium then that, to me is more important than getting back to Europe, we need our own way to get cash because the San Siro isn’t owned fully by the Milan board (in case you didn’t know).

  9. As the 1st person said,we still need 2 get our art 2geda especially defensively…imagine conceding 6goals in jst 2games…wilshere’ll be a very good signing & hopefully,we can get 1 more defender. Saying dis season’s ours seems unrealistic, maybe next season hopefully.

  10. Milan should try and sign Dybala it would bring out the best in lapadula and Adriano.

    donnarumma
    abate Romagnoli Gomes Calabria

    sosa Wilshere Bonaventura

    Suso Bacca Niang/Dybala

  11. I am Ganiyy. Ayo you are very correct. A true Ac Milan fan like me and you is here in nigeria. We looking up for the starting day of winning, this is Ac Milan now era.( new management are coming in, new coach, and new players, all fans should realize that coming back of is a big problem for all other club even in Europe. Our coach vincenzo montella you should know that we all trust, and have believe in You.

  12. @chris very true, but then the emphasis is on the ‘makeshift'(we all agree Baresi and Maldini are eternal). @delusional fan, Angry birds and Emeka, we are still in the ashes, it won’t be easy but we would rise and that includes addressing all necessary errors. @Tunde, Apache, Gbazics, Obinna, Mojdanis and Mr Mark. We will rise again and get to the very top eventually, hope is the last to die and i’m glad we share the same sentiments, thanks very much guys, we remain Milan forever just as @Apache said.
