THE PRIMAVERA SQUAD took a step closer to the Primavera Championship final after winning 3-1 against Catania (3-2 on aggregate).
After Catania won the first leg at home through Nicastro, who scored the solitary goal, AC Milan Primavera coach Giovanni Stroppa said that they would score at least two goals.
And they did just that.
Primavera: AC Milan Win TIM Cup!
13/5/10: The Fronts
Simone Verdi put the hosts in front on the 7th minute. Alfredo Donnarumma put the ball past his brother Antonio to equalize for Catania on the 18th. Catania defended well in the first half and did not give Milan space to create chances.
The second half started with Verdi being subbed off due to a knee injury he picked up late in the first half. Slovenian forward Uros Palibrk took his place in the attack. Nnamdi Oduamadi awoke and showed his great skills in the second half which eventually led to pass to Andrea Schenetti who slotted his low shot past the goalkeeper on 62nd minute.
On the 69th minute, Bellusci tugged Marco Gaeta down on the box and the referee gave Milan a penalty. Gaeta converted from the spot to make it 3-1 which is enough to take Milan to the quarter finals. Palibrk almost made it 4-1 but he sent his shot high. Oduamadi continued his great display.
Nicastro almost scored in injury time but sends his shot high. Catania then committed everyone on attack which left Milan making counterattacks with ease but just couldn’t convert.
In the end, despite the difficulties, the Rossoneri proved to be the better side, secured qualification to the next round and kept their double hopes alive. The “Final Phase” of the Campionato Primavera will be played during the period from 1 June 2010 and 8 June 2010.
